ABSTRACT

This chapter is made up of two articles previously published separately. The first describes two projects for pupils in lower secondary school, to introduce them to manufacturing methods found in industry.

The second article in the chapter looks at the relationship between the designing and making processes followed in Design and Technology, and working practices in industry and commerce. It gives suggestions of how working practices can be translated into classroom practice at Key Stage 4 in all the material areas. It then focuses on the textile industry, but the example given could be adapted to other areas.
