ABSTRACT

It has been argued that computer-based communication is the most fundamental change in communications technology in the last 150 years (de la Sola Pool 1984). The proliferation of the personal computer combined with the Internet has precipitated far-reaching changes in society. Electronic communications and digital networks are transforming the way we work and are reshaping personal communication and entertainment. This transformation has had a tremendous effect on the need and opportunity to learn. Unfortunately, the transmission model that still dominates education has changed little.
