ABSTRACT

A theoretical foundation for teaching and learning will reflect fundamental values and beliefs about an educational experience. It is by making explicit the theoretical elements of an educational experience that we reveal the ideals, which we imperfectly strive to realize. When adopting new communication technologies with the potential to fundamentally alter the teaching and learning transaction, being clear as to one’s ideals is particularly important. E-learning has become the protagonist for change in higher education, but the plot needs a purpose. It is to this end, to provide a clear goal upon which to construct an e-learning strategy, that we turn our attention in this chapter.
