ABSTRACT
Of King Teti (Othoês), founder of the Sixth Dynasty, Manetho wrote that he reigned for 30 years and that ‘he was murdered by his bodyguards’.1 Both claims are open to question. The length of Teti’s reign is partly damaged in the Turin Papyrus, with only the figures [. . . years], 6 months, 21 days preserved,2 thus no years of reign to correlate with Manetho’s, and the highest animal count/census known from his reign was the year after the sixth count.3
