ABSTRACT

It is important to recognise that schools are local institutions through which an increasingly wide range of resources are released, and in which joined-up programmes are based. The notion of the ‘full service’ school, available for use by the community as a whole with community libraries, community sports hall and the like is increasingly widespread and has many implications for facilitating parental involvement in their offspring’s education. And, ‘school-plus’ programmes build out community development initiatives on the back of the connections between school and locality.
