ABSTRACT

This chapter moves on to consider ways in which sources beyond the school might provide support for teachers of four year olds. Various levels of support are considered, ranging from self-help groups to the LEA. A wide range of potential sources is discussed including links with other agencies, initial and inservice training, the advisory service, LEA policies and guidelines, and the role of elected members and officers. The project’s studies of LEA guidelines and selected INSET initiatives are described in detail.
