What can socialism learn from the experience of the USSR? In the pages that follow, we shall be dealing with the ‘traditional’ centralised system. It will be in Part 4 (‘Transition’), that we shall discuss the very serious problems and discussions involved in the process of reforming that system (a process well under way in a number of East European countries), and the lessons to be drawn from them. So, how can the Soviet experience be interpreted?
