ABSTRACT
The chapters of this book have approached our subject-matter from a series of different directions. Yet underlying all of them has been a set of common concerns: about the importance of establishing links between different areas of substantive research; about issues of conceptualisation; and, above all, about the policy and wider social and political implications of our arguments.
