ABSTRACT

Theories of Public Communication Researchers and theorists from many backgrounds have offered insights into the nature of public communication-the range of communication that extends beyond the purely personal interaction between people or small groups. The relevant research can be divided into three areas: the process of communication, the object of communication, and the effects of communication. Understanding each of these areas helps the public relations writer be more effective, because theory offers guidance and insight into what works, why it works, and how it might work under different circumstances.
