ABSTRACT

Networking has an odd reputation among managers, particularly those from Anglo-Saxon countries like Britain and the USA. Views on the subject fall into two camps. On the one hand there are many, including very senior and otherwise successful people, who find networking very difficult to do: they are uneasy when attempting to network, and may even regard networking by others with suspicion. Others regard networking as a natural part of both professional and personal life, and cannot see what all the fuss is about. This is also true of many managers from cultures such as Japan and especially China, where networking is natural and commonplace.
