ABSTRACT

It is, I believe, entirely appropriate that in this holy city of Jerusalem-the crucible and meeting place of three of the world’s great religions-that we should reflect for a little while on the attitudes and responses of the Christian, Jewish and Moslem communities to the emergence of global capitalism; and of the opinions and actions which religious leaders (as contrasted with economists and politicians) might take, or prescribe might be taken, to ensure that the ideologies, values and institutions which they cherish, are nourished, rather than eroded, by contemporary economic events.
