Wood rot, wood-boring insects, pests and troublesome plants

Wood rotting fungi is the chief cause of wood decay in this country. Essentially the fungus grows on the timber extracting the sugars out of the cellulose causing the material breakdown. There are two main types:

• dry rot (sepula lacrymans) • wet rot (coniophora puteana).
