ABSTRACT

Reports from Paris had not come to Aix, Bordeaux, Rouen or Angers as news from another world. They represented, according to the recipient’s position, a threat or an incitement. They described events which struck a chord and related to issues of local application. What happened in Paris would, in the long run, prove decisive for France. What happened in the provinces affected the action in Paris: the response of ministers, Parlement and frondeurs.
