ABSTRACT

Organisations responsible for staff are also responsible for staff safety. Violence may be directed towards an individual or a group of workers. It may take place between service users. It may involve one or more perpetrators. Sometimes it may take place between one employee and another. Irrespective of its make-up, managing aggression requires more than the approach of simply relying upon individual staff to have appropriate skills (see Chapter 5). It requires the organisation to adopt and employ proactive measures aimed at reducing levels of violence towards staff. This chapter will examine some of those measures.
