ABSTRACT

Hugh Blair (1718–1800), extract from Lectures on Rhetoric and Belles Lettres (1783), ed. H. H. Harding (Carbondale and Edwardsville, Ill., 1965), ii. 368–70. Harding notes that Blair's lectures, which were highly successful when he gave them in Edinburgh, were substantially complete by 1762, and that they probably received only minor revision prior to their publication twenty years later (Ibid., p. xi).
