John Dennis (?), extract from a letter to the Daily Journal, 11 May 1728, ¹ Critical Works, ii. 416–17. Hooker considers that the letter was written by Dennis ‘or by someone who knew his work and imitated his manner’ (ed. cit., ii. 526).
