ABSTRACT
This notice was reprinted in the Richmond Whig (11 October) with the following introduction: ‘For the gratification of the numerous friends of this lamented gentleman, we publish, in another column, a notice from the Baltimore Patriot. The writer has fallen into two slight errors. Mr Poe (we learn from those who have the best right to know) was forty-four not thirty eight [sic],and he was never at William & Mary, but at the University of Virginia.’
