ABSTRACT

Located 90 miles south of Cuba, Jamaica is the third largest Caribbean island, with a population of 2.5 million, a developed infrastructure and a striking tropical environment. Tourism is the main source of foreign exchange. Earnings from tourism rose from $516 million in 1986 to $965 million in 1995. The number of tourists visiting Jamaica was about 1 million in 1987; this figure increased to 1.75 million in 1995.
