ABSTRACT

Joyce, in Ulysses has written a really important work, and successfully carried out daring experiment in the use of English language. He has evolved a technique of expression, which if not wholly original, is at least the most complete embodiment of theories he and others have experimented with-a technique that bears indisputably the stamp of his individuality. His work is not always easy reading; indeed it is frequently involved, verbose, and boring. Nor is it always easily comprehended even by readers possessing the necessary keys to its interpretation.
