ABSTRACT

Dr Philip King (d. 1666/7) was the nephew of Bishop Henry King, Donne's friend and literary executor. He mentions Donne in the course of some observations on books and reading cast in the form of a letter signed 'P.K.'; but it is not clear from the context whether he has Donne's poetry in mind as well as his preaching (The Surfeit. To A.B.C., 1656. Given in Reliqlliae Hernianae, ed. P. Bliss, Oxford, 1857, ii, pp. 930-1).
