ABSTRACT
George Orwell (pseudonym for Eric Arthur Blair) (1903–50), novelist and social critic, contributed regularly to the leading periodicals of the day. One of his most famous works, ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’ (1949), was re-issued in 1965 with an introduction by Stephen Spender.
