Kermode (b. 1919), King Edward VII Professor of English Literature, Cambridge University, includes amongst his many publications ‘The Romantic Image’ (1957) and ‘The Sense of an Ending’ (1967). His edition of ‘The Selected Prose of T.S. Eliot’ was published in 1975. In ‘Modern Essays’ (1971) he gave a striking account of Eliot’s place in the Modern Movement. He delivered the T.S. Eliot Memorial Lectures at the University of Kent at Canterbury in 1973.
