ABSTRACT
In Chapter 2, it was established that a common thread woven through any tourism system was the idea that understanding something about the nature of culture1 is an essential factor in gaining an understanding of tourism. In particular, this chapter aims to:
• identify different ways of defining or describing culture; • evaluate the significance of culture within a tourism system;
(and) • explore some of the links between cultural dynamics and
post-modernism.
