ABSTRACT

Babinski reflex An abnormal response seen when the outside edge of the sole of the foot is scraped. The big toe would normally point downward and the other toes curl. The abnormal response occurs when the big toe is raised up and the other toes spread. It indicates that there is damage to the brain or spinal cord. It is very easy to get apparently abnormal responses in normal people especially infants and young children and it should therefore be carried out by professionals skilled in neurological examinations.
