ABSTRACT
The events of 1989-91 provided a rare sense of history in the making. Such turning points reshape our sense of the past as well as future possibilities. By way of conclusion, then, we shall reflect on the ways in which the upheavals of 1989-91 have influenced perspectives on the cold war and on the shape of things to come.
