ABSTRACT
I would remake that part of my life because I’d cut myself off from that kind of activity.
For Ben, remaking this part of his life meant putting himself in contact with various local groups. Over time he got to know a number of people there:
They had friends, and they had neighbours and things, and they invited me to baby-sit and then they invited me to tea…and then we just became friends, and I got to know their friends, and from there I’ve moved out to do other things. That’s how it’s kind of spread, and so I’ve got to know people…. But I felt I had to do that…because being unemployed you can just about meet nobody and have no friends, especially in the position I was in.
