ABSTRACT

We want to tell a story about two rooms. The first is full of people. It is modestly furnished, modestly decorated. The people are

variously dressed, many of them quite informally. They are sitting on upright chairs, in a rough circle. There is a small table in the middle, with a bunch of flowers. There are a few books. But otherwise there is nothing: no furniture, no movement, no talk. For it is the silence that you are going to notice most of all.
