ABSTRACT

The Dearing Committee conducted its business with a keen awareness of the characteristics of higher education in partner countries in the European Union. Visits were made to France, Germany and the Netherlands, as a result of which comparative views of qualifications, standards and the student experience were derived. A report was also commissioned from the Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC), and published by the Committee, on higher education frameworks elsewhere in Europe (NCIHE, 1997, Appendix 5).
