ABSTRACT

One of the main tasks of the coordinator is to find ways to encourage teachers to move their work on in the classroom. A series of reports from Ofsted highlight the fact that many schools monitor and evaluate teaching and classroom practice but then fail to take the necessary step of influencing practice for the better as a result of their evaluation. This can be done by providing documentation or setting targets but the most effective way to get colleagues to try new approaches in the classroom is to show them how things might look and offer reasons for the practice suggested. There are different ways of showing people, including

■ showing lessons in action; ■ arranging displays for staff, which will also be useful for children, parents and governors; ■ leading short in-service sessions.
