ABSTRACT
Probably the most used terms in toxicology are ‘acute’ and ‘chronic’. Although they are often combined with the word ‘toxicity’ this is incorrect because toxicity indicates a quality of a substance. Since toxicology is concerned with the nature of the biological effect the correct term is ‘intoxication’.
