ABSTRACT

Ecotoxicology is concerned with the adverse impact of chemicals on ecosystems. In addition, by common usage, it has come to include the study of how chemicals reach man through the environment. It is difficult for us, by our humanocentric mode of thought, to consider or concede what is good for the environment; decisions depend on judgements we are probably unable to make, i.e. criteria for normality, non-human riskbenefit assessment and derived from it what are tolerable changes.
