Multiple insect resistance is an essential attribute of modern rice varieties and a cornerstone of integrated pest management (IPM) for rice production. Biotechnology is beginning to contribute to the enhancement of insect resistance in several ways:
(1) DNA marker technology increases the efficiency with which breeders move known resistance genes into new cultivars.
