ABSTRACT
Women were not selected to LSA leadership in proportion to their presence among the membership. Over the first decades, between 10 and 15 percent of LSA members each year were women, but on only a single occasion was there more than one woman at any time among the leaders. Though there were at least twelve positions to be filled each year (officers and standing committees), for ten of the first twenty years women were entirely unrepresented.
