Japan’s return to Singapore in the post-war period

Japan lost all her overseas assets when she was defeated in the Pacific War, but she nevertheless began to return economically to Southeast Asia in the late 1940s. Her trade relations with the region started again in 1947 when her restricted private foreign trade began, while Japanese companies resumed their economic activities there well before the commencement of the payment of war reparations to Southeast Asian countries in the second half of the 1950s.
