ABSTRACT

Area, 5 per cent of the former Yugoslavia. Population (1989), 0.7 million (3 per cent of the Yugoslav total); 69 per cent Montenegrins, 13 per cent Moslems and 6 per cent Albanians. Contributed 2 per cent of Yugoslav GNP. Index of per capita income, 73 (Yugoslav average = 100). The 1991 census gave a population of 616,327, of which Montenegrins accounted for 61.8 per cent, Slav Moslems 14.6 per cent, Serbs 9.3 per cent and Albanians 6.6 per cent (EEN, 1995, vol. 9, no. 10, p. 4).
