ABSTRACT
Working as an umbrella group to co-ordinate the efforts of a variety of other organisations, including the Service Council of the Society of Friends, the Save the Children Fund, the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, the Spanish Youth Foodship Committee, the Spanish Women’s Committee for Help to Spain, the Women’s Committee Against War and Fascism, the Basque Children’s Committee and many others. Branches throughout Britain holding meetings, events and appeals to fund relief work in Spain and to support refugees in Britain. Appeals were sometimes made particularly to women, as in the case of the Milk Fund Appeal, supported by women such as Vera Brittain, Elizabeth M. Cadbury, Stella Churchill, Dorothy Gladstone, Storm Jameson, Naomi Mitchson, Flora Robson, Virginia Woolf, Margery Fry, Eva M. Hubback.
