ABSTRACT
Since its inception in the first half of the twentieth century, commercial air travel has grown rapidly. In the 1970s and 1980s global air travel grew at around 6 per cent per annum, far outstripping growth rates in the global economy during this period. It is anticipated that this trend will continue for some time, before falling to a lower level of between 2 and 3 per cent.
