ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with student involvement in Computer Assisted Assessment (CAA). Before embarking on an investigation of this, it is useful to trace the development of CAA as a method of assessment and determine what, exactly, computer assessed assessment is. It is defined by the Computer Assisted Assessment Centre (CAA Centre, 2003), simply, as the use of computers in assessment. ‘The term encompasses the use of computers to deliver, mark and analyse assignments or examinations. It also includes the collation and analysis of data gathered from optical mark readers (OMRs)’ (CAA Centre, 2003).
