ABSTRACT

In June, media interest in the Spar reached its zenith. The drip-feed of new information regarding its alleged state of contamination, and the possible consequences of dumping, continued to leak out in a confusing and sometimes contradictory manner. As with the preceding chapter, here no attempt is made to filter out any misinformation. Instead events are chronicled as they appeared in the press. Any remark by the authors, to help explain or comment on the reporting, is set in italics.
