ABSTRACT

Encourage reflection on the basic idea that all living things, including animal, plant and human life, need a home. Ask the children to sit quietly and close their eyes. Guide them to some imaginary scenes of homes. The following scenarios will be useful, although one would presumably focus on only one at a time:

A

You are a flower. You have beautiful red petals facing the sunshine. Your leaves are bright green and you have a stem reaching down into the ground. The soil is your home. Your roots hold you firmly in place. You do not move from your home. You have everything that you need there. Think about what it feels like to be a flower. How does the ground around you feel? Are there other plants living nearby? Do animals and insects come to visit you? How do you get your water and food?
