ABSTRACT

The attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 11 September 2001 were extreme manifestations of the link between religion and globalisation. Arguments for the attacks were extracted from religion, which again proved to be an inexhaustible reservoir for the derivation of absolute truth. The attacks themselves were planned, coordinated and executed by two of the technological icons of globalisation: the Internet and the modern passenger plane. And the more than three thousand dead represented a global variety of nations, races and creeds.
