ABSTRACT

Quite a number of mathematical procedures to handle surface models are available, such as Bézier approximations, spline and B-spline interpolations.

The surfaces in this data structure are quasi-independent elements, which means that they have no relations to each other. Surfaces do not share edges, the edges belong to the geometric description of the surfaces. A relation between a surface and a volume does not exist. Therefore models can be constructed, which are composed of a number of surfaces, but have no representation in the real world.
