ABSTRACT

A DTM can be generated manually by plotting well-chosen sparse on ground 3D points in a stereo display. The spatial localization of these points is determined by the operator and their elevation can be also manually plotted or automatically generated through the stereo matching methods we have discussed earlier. The spatial density of the points depends on the local roughness of the landscape and on the desired DTM quality. A TIN-like surface can be generated from these points with a 2D Delaunay triangulation, as shown in Figure 3.5.4.1 (a) and (b).
