ABSTRACT
The World Wide Web is fast becoming a standard platform for geographic information systems (GIS). A vast range of geographic information services already exists on the World Wide Web (Green, 1998) and the range of environmental information now available online is impressive. Commercial developers are already producing on-line versions of their GIS software. Many on-line services include spatial queries or map drawing.
