ABSTRACT
When students are asked to synthesise the outcomes of their learning and/ or research into a self-explanatory poster (individually or in groups) that can be assessed on the spot, it can be an extremely valuable process. More and more conferences are providing poster-display opportunities as an effective way of disseminating findings and ideas. This kind of assessment can provide practice in developing the skills relevant to communicating by such visual means.
