ABSTRACT

THIS beautiful, rich, and spacious province, which the Romans called India citerior, or India intra Gangem (India on this side of the Ganges), and which we call Indostan, is today in the possession (at least, for the most part) of a powerful monarch who is generally known as the Great Mogor, 2 his ancestors having been termed Mogores by the inhabitants of that part of India which first came under their sway.
