ABSTRACT

What if aliens were real? So far, my focus has fallen upon fictional extraterrestrials.

Sometimes, however, aliens are not held at the comfortable distance that imagination ultimately affords. Some encounters with creatures from galaxies far, far away are far, far closer. I am referring to alien abduction, and I want in this chapter to ask what the contemporary popularity of the phenomenon might reveal about the strange similarity between ‘alien love’ and ‘alien hatred’. Why should ‘alien love’, as I suggested at the end of the previous chapter, be understood as Alien Chic?
