ABSTRACT

The issues considered in this chapter are only relevant to managers, colleagues, human resources staff and shop stewards if the bereaved person is feeling out of their depth, when a diplomatic offer to talk it through may be very welcome. It may be triggered by a helpless or hapless look or something more explicit, such as ‘I’ve never done this before…’ or ‘What the heck are you meant to do now?’. Much of the detail in this situation relates to the British situation, and requirements in other countries need to be checked.
