ABSTRACT

Under cover of the shades of night, the Persians took up a position in a palm-grove which was situated at a distance of 500 paces to the N.W. of our fort; they fortified themselves therein with strong ramparts on the side confronting the fort, and in some quarries situated on the N.E. side, connecting these positions to the little Palm-grove by means of some deep trenches on the landward side.
