ABSTRACT

As the fortress was exposed to the hindrance of the enemy, the reach of the wall was raised to a height from which our weapons could be employed with greater effect; and no sooner had this been done, than the spies brought news that large reinforcements for the enemy were coming over from Persia, The Captain-Major at once issued a proclamation forbidding anyone, under pain of severe punishment, going outside the fort beyond a certain limit, which he proceeded to fix forthwith.
